The age old question of “Are stingrays good at baseball” appears to have been answered. Sean Rodriguez, an unfortunate wearer of the Quad A label, was reportedly stung by a ray on the foot the day of May 25th. In the way that geeks around the world attempted to get bitten by radioactive spiders, little leaguers all over Tampa are purposely forgetting to shuffle their feet on the beach in the hopes they too can become good at baseball.
Since melding his DNA with that of the stingray, Sean Rodriguez is once again relevant. In the 11 games since he’s hit for a .314 average, scored 8 runs and driven in 6 Rays (human ones). A word of caution before jumping back on the Hot Rod bandwagon, though. He’s also sporting a 0/9 BB/K split, so it appears he may just be falling into a bit of a lucky streak. But for a guy that had a lot of ROY hype coming into the season he’s at least worth keeping a stinger on.
*At the writing of this post Sean Rodriguez is 2-2 with 2 RBIs and a run scored.
