Willie Stargell – Provider/Muse Of Great Quotes

Looking through some baseball things today on this rainy Sunday I found a couple nuggets from former players that I thought were equal parts ridiculous, hilarious and true. Here’s the first that caught my attention, coming from HOF member Wilver Stargell:

“Throwing a knuckleball for a strike is like throwing a butterfly with hiccups across the street into your neighbor’s mailbox.”

Stargell, known for his Ruthian home runs, inspired fellow Hall of Famer Don Sutton to quip:

“He doesn’t just hit pitchers, he takes away their dignity.”
